Which industries are hiring electrical engineers?

My expertise is navigation. Currently, the aerospace and consumer electronics industries cannot hire navigation engineers fast enough. 

What jobs can you pursue with a master’s degree in electrical engineering?

Every smartphone, drone, plane, and motor vehicle has some sort of navigation system in it. Navigation engineers design, build, and support the hardware and software that power these systems. 

What trends are you seeing in the electrical engineering field?

In navigation, one of the challenging problems at the moment is “indoor navigation.” GPS works great outside but not so much when you’re inside a skyscraper. Yet where are the first responders going to go if you have an emergency and dial 911?

Another major future trend is in drones that carry people and packages. Piloted or unpiloted multirotor vehicles (so-called “air taxis”) are currently the hot development. The current air traffic control system was not designed to accommodate these kinds of vehicles, so setting up a system to enable safe and efficient air taxi service is a major challenge. 

What are some of the most crucial skills that electrical engineers need?

The core fundamentals that every electrical engineer needs are electromagnetics, linear systems, communication theory, and control theory.
